As Atlantis University’s athletic programs enter the heart of the season, the football, soccer, and basketball teams are working hard to establish themselves in their respective competitions. From the football team’s rebuilding year to the soccer squad’s focus on long-term development and the basketball team’s promising start, AU athletes are gaining valuable experience and displaying commendable determination.
Football
The Atlantis University football team recently traveled to Georgia to face off against Clayton State University in a challenging match that resulted in a tough loss, with a final score of 55-6. The WR Joseph Simpson scored the team’s only touchdown, highlighting his determination and skill on the field. For this newly revamped team, comprised primarily of freshman players, the game marked a significant learning experience as they faced the rigorous competition in their season lineup. With only two games left to conclude the season, AU’s coaches and players are proud of the hard work and progress demonstrated despite their lack of experience. On November 16th, the team will play against the UFTL Eagles. Later in the month, they will travel to Virginia to participate in the Neptune Bowl against Apprentice School, a fellow Division 1 team in the USCAA conference. Head Coach Joel Williams and his coaching staff are optimistic about the future of AU Football, envisioning a solid and experienced team ready to compete in higher conferences within the next few seasons.
Soccer
In their latest game, the Atlantis University men’s soccer team took their second consecutive loss, falling 1-0 to UIC in a rematch. The team’s current record is three wins, three losses, and two draws, edging them further from a potential National Championship appearance this season. However, Head Coach Diego Rios and Assistant Coach Luis Zapata focus on long-term growth, player development, and program building to ensure sustained success in the coming years. They aim to introduce fresh talent to the roster and refine their schedule for the 2025-26 season, aiming to establish AU as a formidable contender in collegiate soccer.
Basketball
The men’s basketball team has completed its scrimmage games, starting with a win over MAU and concluding with a challenging match against NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Although AU fell to NSU, the experience was invaluable for players and coaches as they competed against a highly skilled team. Head Coach Frankie Hernandez and Assistant Coach Marcus Roberts-Deloach are confident in the program they are building and their talented roster, which they believe will continue to deliver strong performances. The team is now gearing up for its first official game, set to take place this Friday in South Carolina against Clinton College.
A pathway to the future.
The Atlantis University Athletics program is amid an exciting season filled with growth, determination, and optimism for the future. With each team building a solid foundation through commitment and hard work, the university looks forward to building a lasting legacy in collegiate sports. Despite a few setbacks, AU athletes and coaches are determined to refine their strategies, harness their talents, and come back stronger as they aim to bring pride and excellence to Atlantis University.
