Jesus Gonzalez was untouchable on Sunday, delivering a masterful no-hit, no-run performance as Atlantis University cruised to a dominant 5-0 victory over PSU Fayette. The southpaw was in complete control, racking up 14 strikeouts over six shutout innings, silencing the PSU Fayette offense, and leading Atlantis to a statement win.
The Atlantis offense got to work early, striking in the top of the first inning. Marco Medina ripped a double down the right-field line to bring in the first run, and Gianni Rodriguez followed with an RBI single in the same direction to make it 2-0. PSU Fayette's Remington Lessman battled on the mound, pitching a complete game but ultimately taking the loss. He went seven innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out two, and walking three.
Atlantis padded its lead throughout the game, with Nathaniel Gomez delivering a 1-for-3 day at the plate while driving in two runs. Rodriguez and Justin Suarez each notched two hits, helping fuel the offensive attack. In relief, Chris Olazabel closed the door with a perfect seventh inning, striking out one while allowing no hits or walks. The Atlantis defense was flawless, playing error-free baseball behind Gonzalez's dominant performance. Walter Mammarella was a rock at his position, handling 15 defensive chances without a misstep. The team also showcased its speed, swiping three bases throughout the game.
PSU Fayette turned two double plays on the defensive side, but the team couldn't generate enough offense to crack Gonzalez's masterful outing. Atlantis University will look to build on this momentum in its next matchup as it continues its season.
