Atlantis University Baseball embarked on a challenging road trip to Jacksonville, facing off against Trinity Baptist College in a three-game series that tested their mettle and showcased their potential.
Game 1: Atlanteans Ignite with a 5-3 Victory
The series opener on Friday saw the Atlanteans come out swinging. In the first inning, Oscar Caicedo set the tone with a clutch double, bringing in the first run. Gianni Rodriguez followed suit in the third inning, extending the lead to 2-0 with another timely double.
The fourth inning was a display of power, as Marco Medina and Ozzy Gabarro each launched solo home runs, pushing the score to 4-0. Nathaniel Gomez added to the tally in the sixth with a solo shot of his own. On the mound, Kevin Rodriguez delivered a solid performance, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned), while striking out seven. Chris Olazabel secured the save, ensuring the Atlanteans' victory.
Game 2: A Narrow 6-5 Defeat
Saturday's first game presented challenges early on, with Trinity Baptist jumping to a 5-1 lead in the first inning. However, the Atlanteans showcased their resilience. Eddy Perez initiated the comeback with a sacrifice fly in the first. Jonathan Mustelier's double in the fifth inning tied the game at 5-5, highlighting the team's fighting spirit. Despite out-hitting Trinity Baptist 8-7, the Atlanteans fell short by a single run. Eduardo Roque's relief pitching was commendable, delivering five scoreless innings and keeping the game within reach.
Game 3: Battling Hard in a 7-4 Loss
The series finale saw Atlantis University out-hit their opponents once again, 9-8. Justin Suarez led the offense with three hits, while Jony Vasallo, Walter Mammarella, and Marco Medina each contributed RBIs. Despite the offensive efforts, defensive miscues, and timely hitting by Trinity Baptist, the Atlanteans suffered a 7-4 loss. Starting pitcher Jesus Gonzalez faced challenges, allowing seven runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings.
